Two people were taken to hospital following a multiple-alarm fire on the Mountain Monday afternoon.
Fire crews were called to 824 Upper Ottawa, near Mohawk Road, around 3:18 p.m. and found “heavy smoke” and a “well-involved fire” in a garage attached to a one-storey home, Chief Dave Cunliffe said in a statement.
The fire was spreading to the roof of the home, so the alarm was upgraded to bring in resources from across the city, he said.
“Two residents of the home had self evacuated and were suffering from smoke inhalation,” Cunliffe said.
Paramedics treated the residents at the scene and transported them to hospital.
No other injuries had been reported as of 5:16 p.m. on Monday.

Firefighters searched the home and managed to bring the fire under control in roughly 15 minutes using “aggressive interior fire suppression,” Cunliffe said.
Pictures the department shared on social media show smoke drifting over the driveway, with scorch marks surrounding the garage door, along with melted and charred siding.
